Hello! I’m Simon. I’m an entrepreneur from Cape Town. Right now I’m steering WumDrop.com.

Things I’m happy to do

  • Advise you if you’re starting your first business. Caveat! I might not have time when you ask me, and I also know that I’m mostly ignorant. I’ll tell you when I don’t have time, and if I don’t know the answer to an important question.

  • Speak or write about my own business journey.

  • Review your CV if you’d like to work for WumDrop. We almost always have space for operations and sales personnel all over South Africa.

Things I prefer to never do

  • Meetings without a specific agenda that we agreed to beforehand. Please, please tell me why you’d like to meet me. I need to know how much of my day and brain you need.

  • Unscheduled phone calls. Please email me instead. Thank you!

Simon Hartley founded WumDrop six years ago after spotting a gap for a cost-effective, surgically efficient last mile delivery service while selling diapers online. A qualified television scriptwriter with absolutely no software development chops whatsoever, Hartley and his team trained for the pressures of last mile delivery by spinning up the on-demand grilled cheese sandwich service, the Grilled Cheese Club. Walmart subsidiary Massmart acquired a majority stake in WumDrop in 2017. WumDrop now operates profitably in all major South African cities, with clientele including Standard Bank, Makro, Builders Warehouse, Teljoy, Unilever, The Foschini Group, and KFC.
